About to kick off this year’s travels today with a trip back out to Colorado to ski. But before that, I wanted to take a second to highlight a much more accessible ski experience back on the east coast.
I took a day trip to Montage Mountain in Pennsylvania in January 2021 with Michael. It’s not the biggest mountain out there, but they have some super fun runs for the size and some of the best lift tickets deals I’ve seen out there. With consolidation of resorts by Vail (Epic Pass) and Alterra (Ikon Pass), corporations are pushing towards a model that demands committing to a season pass ahead of time if you want to avoid paying over $100 per day for lift tickets.
Meanwhile, Montage continues to offer $40 lift ticket + rental combo Monday-Wednesday (update from July 2026, it's still only $45 for the Ski-for-all deal!), meaning this is possibly one of the most affordable mountains to try out skiing or go with a big group of friends. With that, I’m glad to give a shoutout to this independent resort. Definitely worth checking out if you’re nearby. Make sure to bomb down Cannonball at least once!
